The Melius Road Preserve

From their meeting place in the Academy on Sackett Hill Road the members of the Warren land Trust have long had a view of one of the most spectacular pieces of property in the town of Warren; twenty acres of mountain and lowlands directly to the northeast, which encompasses the second highest point in the state. Just prior to the recession this property, which was owned by Frank & Elizabeth Rosenberry, became a prime target for development, lying as it does at the entrance to the town center.

The asking price was out of the Land Trust's range but the project, which could have fallen into the hands of developers was rescued by a generous gift from Jack and Pam Baker, which allowed the Trust to snatch the land from the hands of salivating developers. Then in a move to protect the property from any eventuality the Land Trust gave a conservation easement to the Weantinoge Land Trust, solidifying the property's protection in perpetuity.

In winter the mountainous part of the property can easily be seen from the town center, as can the fields that surround it. In summer only the top of the mountain is in view but it is still pretty spectacular as can be seen from the attached photo.
